The Art of Dying Taught Me How to Live: An Italian Writer's Journey with ANTONIO PUTINI | EAPX-005
"You'll never know if you're courageous, how much honesty you can have, or much else (...) If one never puts themselves in an uncomfortable situation, they'll never know." — A. Putini Today we will explore the multiple lives of Antonio Putini, writer, photographer, and recently, father. We'll track his evolution from creating stories based around the theme of "Ars Moriendi" - The Art of Dying - and through numerous adventures eventually building a family life. Before meeting Antonio in person in 2018, I was following him for good two years on social media, and I became quite intrigued by the wealth of his life experience alongside his writing. What was particularly fascinating was the dissonance in his work. On one side, a fashion photographer in the realm of beauty and glamour, while on the other, he's been exploring in his writing this dark, complicated, multilayered side of human nature that's often hidden from sight. When I eventually moved to London, Antonio became my very first friend here, and the conversations we had really helped me navigate that turbulent period of starting a new life. So in this episode, we will explore Antonio's adventures across different continents, different professions he had, different lives, and what it's like to be a father nowadays. Quick note - this episode is actually in Italian with subtitles for anyone who doesn't speak the language. I did this deliberately because I believe each language can express certain things that just don't translate the same way. Since this podcast is about celebrating different cultures, and since Antonio writes his stories in Italian, and I also happen to speak Italian I thought this was the right move to keep the authentic connection between his language and his work.
